Volcane Spins: a week with the spinning volcano
I'll admit I ignored Volcane Spins at first. The premise, tapping to line up embers around a spinning volcano, sounded too thin to hold my attention. Then I played one round waiting for a kettle to boil and somehow lost twenty minutes.
The thing that makes it work is the honesty of the controls. One tap, one swipe to flip direction, and that's the whole game. Because the inputs are so simple, every failure feels like your fault, which is oddly motivating. By day three I was chasing streaks I'd have called impossible on day one.
Volcane Spins doesn't overstay its welcome either. Rounds are short, so it slots neatly into those pockets of dead time during the day. The embers come faster as you climb, and the later stages throw double drops that genuinely test your reflexes.
If I had to nitpick, there isn't much to chase beyond a high score, so completionists might drift off. But as a pure arcade reflex game it does exactly what it promises. My tip: turn vibration on. The feedback on a long streak is half the fun.
A week in, it's still on my home screen, which says more than any rating I could give it.
