Ember of Vael
Ember of Vael is a proper RPG that respects your time better than most. You play a healer who stumbles into a half-abandoned town, and the loop of taking quests, upgrading gear, and slowly rebuilding the place is surprisingly moreish. Combat is turn-based with a small timing element on each attack, so it never feels fully automatic.
The writing is the real draw. Side characters have actual arcs, and a few of the quest choices stuck with us long after we closed the app. It's not Shakespeare, but it's a cut above the usual mobile filler. Progression is generous without being mindless, and you can play in short bursts or long sessions without feeling punished.
Our only gripe is that the early hours move slowly. Push past the first couple of chapters and it opens up nicely.
